Spiritual Disciplines of Advent: Week 3

Reading of Advent Scripture of your choice

Reflection on Loving:
It is easy to love those who we like, it is harder to love those that perhaps need love the most.  How are we as God's people of love called to be present to those who need to know the ultimate gift of God's love that comes in the birth of Jesus?
Practice for the week:
Take time to think of those who we find hard to love or those we know who are suffering and in need of love and comfort.  Lift them up in prayer each day. Discern what actions of love and caring you might engage in to be the action of God's love in our world.  What changes do you notice in yourself?

Time spent in quiet reflection and prayer
Amen

  1. I loved your post. There are a lot of hurting people out here in this world as well as lost people who don't know God and his only begotten Son Jesus Christ. I just lost my beloved 42 year old cousin over the Christmas holiday 2015. I was with him along with my family and 2 of his best friends he grew up with from nursery school in his hospital room. We all told him how much we loved him, he made us all happy, and he made us proud of him. After that, we formed a prayer circle around his bed and we prayed over him. When we finished praying about 5 minutes later we witnessed his death when he took his last breath. Prior to that, I also witnessed him raise up from his bed, nodded his head, and he laid back in bed. If you are a Believer, what I saw is that he acknowledged to his Lord he is ready to go and the Lord took him on home to Glory. It was something to see and I will not forget that moment. My cousin left this world knowing he was not alone and he was surrounded by love with his family and friends. That is why it is comforting to know that the Comforter (our Lord Jesus) is with us. All I can say is love one another, do not complain, do not hate on others, help others in need no matter who they are, and forgive.

    1. Thank you for your words and sharing about your cousin Cynthia. It is a beautiful retelling of such a sacred moment of exiting this world. May you and your family feel the the arms of God surround you in this time of grieving and moving forward.
